This guide covers what we ask of anyone writing for Rethy Reruns, plus a step-by-step walkthrough of the tools you’ll use to write and submit a post. No technical experience needed — if you can use email, you can do this.
Content guidelines
- Be kind. Every post should portray people in a good light — no put-downs or derogatory comments about anyone.
- Keep it appropriate. No explicit or adult content.
- Fact-check & give credit. This is a community archive — if you’re not sure about something, say so rather than guessing, and credit photos or information when you know where they came from.
- Avoid posting someone else’s personal information without their permission.
- Everything you post must also follow WordPress.com’s Terms of Service.
Tips for writing a good post
- Use a clear, specific title — “Photos of Rethy in 1986” tells people more than “Old Photos.”
- If your post is long, break it up with a subheading or two.
- A photo goes a long way — add one if you have it.
- Describe your photos. When you add an image, fill in its “Alt text” so people using screen readers know what’s in it.
Finding your way around the dashboard
Once you’re logged in, you land in the WordPress “dashboard” — the admin area where you write and manage posts. The dark menu down the left side is how you get everywhere:
- “Dashboard” — a home screen with a quick overview.
- “Posts” — where you write new posts and find ones you’ve already started.
- “Media” — every photo and file anyone has uploaded.
- Your name, top right corner — your profile, and where you log out.
You won’t need anything else in that menu — the rest is for site admins.
Writing and submitting a post, step by step
- Log in with your member account.
- Click “Posts” in the left-hand menu, then click “Add New” at the top of the page.
- Click where it says “Add title” and type one in.
- Click below the title and start typing — that’s your first paragraph. To add something other than text, like a photo, click the “+” button and choose what you want to add.
- To add a photo: click “+”, choose “Image”, then “Upload” and pick a file from your computer. Once it’s added, click the photo and find the “Alt text” field in the panel on the right — type a short description of what’s in the photo.
- A couple of settings live in the panel on the right: “Set featured image” lets you pick a preview photo for the post (optional), and “Post Access Level” controls who can read it.
- Save your progress anytime by clicking “Save draft” near the top right. WordPress also saves periodically on its own.
- When you’re happy with it, click “Submit for Review” near the top right. Member posts are reviewed by an admin before they go live — that’s normal and expected, not an error.
- What happens next: an admin reads over your post, then either publishes it, makes a small edit, or reaches out if something needs changing.
Editing a post
Click “Posts” in the left-hand menu to see everything you’ve written. Click any title to open it back up and edit it.
